Thinking About New Songs

Writing songs has always been an expressive and creative outlet for us. We’ve always thought of
music as communication as well as art. However, sometimes you just feel like writing a simple, fun, and rather shallow song instead of a deep epic exposition of your fears or dreams. Sometimes you don’t want to bear your soul to the world and be as transparent as you have have been in the past.
I guess you come to a crossroads when you fell this way.

That’s kind of how I feel as After Edmund is writing new songs and experimenting with new material. Part of me feels the pressure of writing deep, communicative songs with innovative musical textures. The other part just wants to write something with a catchy beat, a feel good melody, and fun lyrics. So, I guess the obvious solution is to find a way to do both…..I’ll let you know how it goes!
