Building a Legacy

You know it is said that he who dies with the most toys wins, right? In today’s society that is what seems to drive us. We want the big house, nice cars, the perfect spouse, kids, and plenty of cash in the bank to be comfortable. It is what the world deems as success when you achieve all of these things. But as you know, when someone dies you don’t see a hearse pulling a U-haul trailer. We can accumulate all the things in this world and reach this kind of success, but the question is: what kind of legacy are you leaving behind? What will people say about you at your funeral?

Most of the time when you hear of someone with this kind of success they are not happy people because they still have a God-sized hole that needs to be filled. You hear everyday of CEO’s committing suicide, and they have millions of dollars in the bank, and have the appearance of being very successful, yet most of them are miserable. Don’t get me wrong, I believe God wants us to be blessed in all the areas of our lives, but he wants us to use our blessings to bless others. I don’t know about you, but I want to be known not for what I accumulated here upon this earth, and how successful I have become in my “career,” but for how I gave and how I loved others. I want to inspire others to love and to give and to have a servant’s heart.

Jesus himself said it is better to give than to receive. Jesus gave us the perfect example of servanthood. He himself said that He was sent to this earth to serve and not to be served. So my challenge is for all of us to examine our hearts and ask the question, “Am I more interested in having great success and massive fortune, or I am more interested in building a legacy that will live on way beyond my years on this earth and that in turn will inspire others to do the same?”

The Arkansas-based duo comprised of vocalist/guitarist Chad Little and vocalist/bassist/keyboardist Dave Romero has been making an impact on Christian music fans, by blending remarkably rich harmonies and powerful production on their debut CD, Determined, which is in stores now (Flagship/Infinity). Produced by Rick Lloyd (Third Day), the album offers up twelve tracks of hope and encouragement, filled with rich harmonies and a pop-country edge reminiscent of Rascal Flatts and Carrie Underwood. And it's not much of a surprise that the duo's music often draws an immediate comparison to Carrie Underwood's pop-tinged hits, since Little spent a considerable amount of time in the American Idol winner's band, serving as lead guitarist, band leader and songwriter.
