Luke 6:30 (MSG): “To you who are ready for the truth, I say this: Love your enemies. Let them bring out the best in you, not the worst. When someone gives you a hard time, respond with the energies of prayer for that person. If someone slaps you in the face, stand there and take it. If someone grabs your shirt, giftwrap your best coat and make a present of it. If someone takes unfair advantage of you, use the occasion to practice the servant life. No more tit-for-tat stuff. Live generously.”
The Bible usually seems to be pretty simple and straight forward. I find myself capable of living up to most biblical standards. Today, I read this snippet of Scripture and seriously, my facial expression was nothing but shock and unbelief! Not only am I expected to love those who have done me wrong, but I should pray for them! It’s already hard enough to remember to pray for those I love.
“Let them bring out the best in you…” This is why we’re suppose to love our enemies and live generously, because it highlights the good in us. The Bible says that every good thing comes from Above, from God.
Life can get fairly hectic at times and kindness is not always our first response, but it’s important to rely on God to steer us through every situation. We are called to be demonstrators of His love and this can only happen when we choose to display it at every opportunity. Sometimes our truest colors show when we are tested. I know I need to let those colors be some of the most beautiful, attractive colors anyone has ever seen so they can see how amazing God is!
