Introducing the Aaron Greer Band

By Aaron Greer Band • Jun 20th, 2008 • Category: Artists in Residence

Hi everyone, my name’s Aaron from Aaron Greer Band. Welcome to my first blog. Literally - I think this is the very first blog I’ve done - ever. Not just here, but anywhere.

Okay, so who am I, you ask? I front the band that has my namesake on it (Aaron Greer Band). We can be best described as 3 guys, 2, guitars, 1 message. We’re a bit different than other bands in the fact that we operate under our own label (Small Towne Records), we have built our own show that involves lights and video, we’ve developed and maintain our own website (www.aarongreerband.com), AND, we even recorded our latest release ourselves without the use of a Nashville producer or team. As of June 2008, we continue to manage ourselves - though we have signed on with Covenant Artist Agency for booking.

In March of 2008, we released Agents Of Change, our first nationwide release. We’re working with Infinity Music Distribution - currently our CD can be found in all Family Christian and Parable retail outlets. You can also find us on iTunes, Amazon.com and ChristianBook.com.

It’s taken a while to get this far as any of you who are artists can imagine. Let me give you a bit of background where I came from. I  had played in secular bands for nearly 10 years from the ages of 11 to 21. Yes - no joke. In fact, for 2 years, from the ages of 18-20, I even played in a full make-up and costume Kiss tribute band. It was weird - by the time I was finally ABLE to go to bars, I STOPPED going to them. I knew God was caling me to use my talent for His purpose. I just kept saying “no” to it. Before long, I found that I made a career of saying “no” to God. All the while, I was a church- goer. I heard the sermons, helped at the church picnic a few times, did some youth work (not much), but deep in my heart I knew God was calling me to surrender my plans to His. And nearly every time He put an opportunity in my path, I’d say “no” to whatever it was.

After a while, I found that the choices I had said “yes” to wound up breaking me. At the age of 21, I found myself alone, depressed and feeling like I had little hope. It was then that a friend at my church invited me to attend a young adult Bible study, and in the summer of 1999 I had answered an ad for a Christian rock band that needed a lead guitar player.

I would spend the next 5 years with that band, all the while growing in the Lord. I  found that God will use you in great ways if you say YES to Him and His ways. Up until then, all I ever did was the opposite. After that band had run its course, so to speak, I decided to write a whole new batch of worship/personal based songs for a solo CD in early 2005. In the summer of 2005, I teamed up with a fellow Christian musician (Scott Gilbert), who made his living as a Mac computer consultant and web designer amongst other things. I had made a living as a Graphic Designer, working on the Mac platform, and we decided to form Aaron Greer Band - using our talents in computer technology, while combining it with our passion for music with the songs I had written and recorded. Aaron Greer Band shows are ones that utilize the latest technology to provide a visually entertaining show to convey the Gospel message.

I find that God is still doing simply amazing things with us - 3 guys who are open and called to His purpose for our lives - and we try to honor that by using EVERY gift God has given us to promote His Kingdom. That’s a bit of what our new CD Agents Of Change is all about. I wanted the songs from this CD to have a spirit of worship behind them. I wanted these songs to state that we (as Christians) NEED to be agents of change in today’s world - a source of positive impact in the lives of people who desperately need God. We should all stop at nothing to honor the call.

I hope you reading this will give us a listen, or look us up online. Thanks for reading - more to come.
