I’m sitting here in my living room in front of a window. For some reason I have the TV on but I don’t know why because it’s on a channel that doesn’t work so it’s all fuzzy. The volume’s off so it’s ok I guess. I have my two pit bulls on either side of me sleeping as two acoustic guitars lean against my couch.
My album Wherever You Are is coming out in a couple of days – September 16, actually 8 days to be exact. Everyone asks me if I’m nervous. And, to be honest, I’m not at all. Should I be? I think that’s all just a personal choice on how you react to situations. I don’t get nervous about many things though. Maybe a little turbulence on an airplane will get me now and again, but for the most part I don’t get those butterflies at all. Actually, I’ll take that back - large audiences or crowds give me the butterflies still. Some people close to me would chalk that up to faith. I’ve seen a lot of crazy and powerful things happen in my life with my own eyes so my faith meter is pretty much through the roof. Before I take the stage, I pray. It does well to calm the mind and soothe the soul; very well actually.
There are some really great songs on this album! Songs that I actually listen to over and again, and for anyone that knows me, I don’t usually like to listen to my own music. This album is different.
I went to London last week, as sort of a gift to myself. I’ve never left the United States before, so I figured I’d just give it a shot. London was an incredible experience! The lifestyle, the people, the music - the music was very inspiring! Since I’ve been back I’ve written so much, almost more than when I first moved to Austin.
I think it’s important to change your scenery everyone once and a while as a musician. Get out of the normal pace you become accustomed to and shed some skin. Sometimes the best music comes from insecurities because they are usually honest emotions. When in a new place you are in an unbalanced surrounding and I’ve come to realize that helps my writing.
Another great thing about travel is that you see God working His miracles…everywhere! There is no country, no culture, no remote jungle or highest mountain top where He is not working wonders. Again, very inspiring!
