Starting Over

By The Washington Projects • Nov 11th, 2008 • Category: Artists in Residence

Remember when you used to be a super pro at those old video games waaaaaay back when? And even then you needed to start over, or reset sometimes so you could get back on track. I always used to say to myself I wish life were like this. When I’m down and out or just in a long unwanted slump spiritually, mentally or physically, I wish I could just push the reset button and start over again. It wasn’t till I was about 25 that I realized how possible to some extent that really is.

God gives us these amazing gifts called grace and mercy, and he opens his arms wide and says, “Get on your knees and reset; we’ll start all over again.” Its an amazing feeling when you stop taking everything so seriously and realize even the greatest humans that ever lived struggled and made mistakes. Even Jesus had to stop and pray to the Father when he felt too burdened or weighed down with problems, and that should really tell us something. We place too much emphasis on our problems during the journey and too little on the mission.

Start looking at life a little more like a game when it comes to your faults or problems. That doesn’t mean to just let ‘em slide, but it does mean we’re all human and we were born losers. Only through Christ’s blood, his mercy and redemption are we transformed into winners. Why not accept such a refreshing and amazing gift? Become better and better at perfecting how you respond and react in those hard times. Apply that old skool gamer attitude to real life. 1. Start over, 2. Learn from your mistakes, 3. Get better, 4. Win.
