Land of the Twinkies

So I’m watching The Cosby Show reruns today, and I forgot how long it’s been since I watched an episode. I’ve got to think it’s been years. But while I was watching I’ll be honest, I became a little nostalgic, but the thing that really made me ponder was how cool Bill Cosby was. I mean, c’mon, this guy was witty and confident, just an all around amazing guy. I remember growing up and not only was he cool for his wisdom and jokes, but he was respected. And respect when I was a kid was a big deal. You had to earn respect, but once it was given to you, you had the task of holding onto it.

Nowadays I guess respect and wisdom isn’t as COOL anymore, because I tried to think of an actor on a television show that displayed a similar character or inner strength like Bill Cosby, and I challenge you to do the same thing. Someone who everyone knew, I mean he is and was a household name, someone who people look up to, yet is humble and strong. But that is entertaining enough to have you tune in each week. I tried to think real hard, but found nothing. It’s a shame that now respect is built on how many people you can sleep with, or how good your plastic surgeon is, or my favorite one is how you can be completely lacking in talent, drive, ambition, and become famous just because a reality show producer puts a camera in front of your face for 24 hours a day.

So, the next question is, if the next generation is affected by the media which they inevitably will be, and they start mimicking stars like Paris Hilton and Lauren (The Hills), even some of the music that’s out there. It is literally scary to think what this next generation will develop into. A world completely lacking Soul. Earth will soon be called “Land of the Twinkies,” because we’ll be filled with a bunch of tasty stuff that just holds a place but serves no real beneficial attribute. Ooh, I can’t wait to take a bite, LOL!
