After a highly successful fourteen year stint with EMI Christian Music Group, Gotee Records is declaring their independence. The label, founded by Joey Elwood and Toby McKeehan, recently bought out the minority stake from EMI, setting their sights on the future.
“Gotee Records and Emack Music are moving forward in a proactive and strategic fashion, and we plan to re-calibrate ourselves for the new consumer we’re now encountering in this business,” says co-founder and label President Joey Elwood, “Our next phase will obviously be heavily weighted on the digital market and how to engage that consumer.”
The highly eclectic and diversified label, which has boasted talent such as Jennifer Knapp, Out of Eden, Relient K, and Family Force 5, is set to shift it’s contracts from configuration-based to content-based contracts. Essentially, that means the artists will be doing what artists do best, creating and recording music while the label will support marketing consistently. On the docket for this year? Gotee has already unveiled new music from Sarah Kelly and will soon debut projects from newcomer Stephanie Smith, Ayiesha Woods, and Family Force 5. Add to that digital marketing campaigns for John Reuben and House of Heroes and we can safely say that it’s going to be a full year for Gotee.
