The Gospel Music Channel Celebrates Five Years

The Gospel Music Channel (GMC) television network debuted on Oct. 30, 2004, as a small, independent start-up cable channel with only several thousand homes able to see it.  Since then, the nation’s leading uplifting and inspiring gospel/Christian music channel has taken the country by storm.
Among GMC’s successes and highlights:
– GMC continues to grow and is currently in more than 45 million homes around the country, carried by every major cable operator, including Comcast, Time Warner, Cox & Charter.  GMC is seen in all major markets and nationwide on DIRECTV on Channel 338 and on Verizon FiOS on channel 224.
– GMC’s web site, GospelMusicChannel.com, has become the #1 gospel/Christian music web site.
– GMC Video-On-Demand offerings are among the most popular among all cable subscribers.
– GMC has become the largest producer of original Gospel/Christian music television in the world, producing more than 300 hours of concerts, series, specials and video, producing all new content in High Definition.  GMC has also become home to the two most-prestigious award shows in gospel/Christian music: The GMA Dove Awards and The Stellar Awards.

–GMC has consistently performed extremely well in research and surveys, proving that people who have GMC watch it and love it and people who don’t have it, value it highly and want it. GMC ranked #1 in perceived consumer value among 43 measured cable networks in the just-released BETA Research Digital Cable Subscriber Study, tied with the NFL Network. GMC also ranked #1 in perceived value among African Americans, women, men and 18-49 year olds in this year’s study.

“It is very gratifying and humbling that our vision to provide family-friendly entertainment programming with strong Christian values is being embraced on so many levels. We look forward to continued growth and success in the months ahead and pledge to our loyal viewers and users that we will continue to deliver the very best that gospel/Christian music has to offer,”said Charles Humbard, founder and president, GMC.

Upcoming GMC programming highlights include: The exclusive world premiere of a new original concert featuring Switchfoot produced as part of GMC’s signature music series Revealed (Nov. 27, 10:00 pm); GMC becomes “America’s Christmas Channel” for the holidays, including world premiere Christmas concerts by gospel/R&B great Ann Nesby (Nov. 29) and the very popular southern gospel group Ernie Haase & Signature Sound (Nov. 28) as well as original Christmas performances throughout the holidays featuring Chris Tomlin, Mary Mary, Brian McKnight, MercyMe, Jars of Clay, Trin-i-tee 5:7, Matthew West and more.
