Donald Lawrence Tops Billboard Year-End Lists

Following the biggest first week sales of his career with the recent release of his sophomore solo CD The Law of Confession, Part 1 (Quiet Water/ Zomba Gospel) (the project debuted at #2 on Billboard magazine’s gospel album sales chart, at #71 on the Billboard Hot 100 Albums chart and at  #1 on the iTunes Christian/Gospel chart), Grammy winner Donald Lawrence lands at the top of the Billboard 2009 year end charts in numerous categories.  

In a year that has seen him secure his fifth #1 gospel radio hit, with his single “Back II Eden” (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqUF9xKpqNI) from The Law of Confession, Part 1 (Quiet Water/Zomba Gospel) and a 2009 Grammy Award nomination (Best Traditional Gospel Album) and 9 2009 Stellar Award nominations (including Album of the Year & Artist of the Year), Donald Lawrence is redefining the role of an artist, songwriter and producer across all areas of music.

On the 2009 Billboard year end charts, Donald Lawrence has garnered recognition for #1 Hot Gospel Producer , #1 Hot Gospel Song (“Souled Out” produced by Donald Lawrence), #2 Hot Gospel Song – “Back II Eden,” #2 Hot Gospel Songwriter , #5 Hot Gospel Songs Artist, #8 Top Gospel Album Artist, #9 Top Gospel Albums – The Law of Confession, Part 1.

Throughout his vast career, Donald has sold over 1 Million Albums as an artist, has served as the Vocal Mentor for Season 2 of BET’s hit show Sunday Best, has been the two time host of Verizon Wireless’s national choir competition, How Sweet The Sound.  He has composed ten top ten hits and has produced work for artists including Mary J. Blige, Kelly Price, Stephanie Mills, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Hezekiah Walker, Clark Sisters, Coko, T.D. Jakes and Karen Clark-Sheard.

Donald is the only artist ever to have produced the top 4 Gospel songs in one year, which included a 2008 Grammy Award and a Stellar Award.  He has won Stellar Awards for Producer of the Year and  Artist of the Year for I Speak Life.  He was also awarded BMI’s 2008Christian Writer of the Year and the BMI Trailblazer’s Award in 2008.  Donald has also served from 2004-present as the Musical Director for the Grammy Salute to Gospel.
